The BMW 3.0 CS and 3.0 CSI were introduced in 1971 and replaced the earlier BMW 2800CS. The engines of both were bored to improve performance and CSI , which arrived later in the year, was built with Bosch D Jetronic electronic fuel injection replacing the two carburetors of the CS and raising the horsepower to nearly 200.
